COUNCIL OF SIKH ORGANIZATIONS - CALGARY
(Amended Nov.88)

1. GENERAL

  1. The name of the society shall be Council of Sikh Organizations -Calgary, hereinafter referred to as COSO.
  2. The operations and activities of COSO shall be carried out chiefly, but not exclusively, in Calgary and vicinity, in the Province of Alberta.
  3. The membership year of COSO shall end on the thirty-first day of January in each year.
  4. The fiscal year of COSO shall end on the Thirty-first day of March in each year.
  5. Words and expressions used in these by-laws importing the singular shall include the plural and vice versa; and words importing gender shall include masculine, feminine and neuter genders; and words importing a person shall include an individual, partnership. Association and corporate body.

2. MEMBERSHIP AND ELECTION OF DELEGATES


2.01    CATAGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP IN COSO

2.01.1   DIRECT MEMBER
Any Sikh residing in Calgary and its vicinity and being of the full age of eighteen years .and supporting the objects of COSO will be eligible to apply to become a DIRECT MEMBER of COSO.

2.01.2  AFFILIATE MEMBER
Any organization , lawfully incorporated under The Societies Act of Alberta for a period not less than twelve months , and having a paid membership of not less than 25 members , and chiefly carrying out its operations and activities in Calgary and its vicinity, and supporting the objects of COSO shall be eligible to apply to become an AFFILIATE MEMBER of COSO.

2.01.3  ASSOCIATE MEMBER
Any organization, incorporated or not, chiefly carrying out its operations and activities in the Province of Alberta, and supporting the objects of COSO shall be eligible to apply to become an ASSOCI ATE MEMBER of COSO.

2.01.4   HONORARY MEMBER
HONORARY MEMBERSHIP shall be conferred on individuals who have rendered extraordinary services to COSO in achieving its objectives and to the community at large. HONORARY MEMBERS shall enjoy all the privileges of memberships in COSO, except the right to vote at any meetings or the right to stand for any elected position.

2.02        MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL

Application for Membership shall be made upon a prescribed form , accompanied by appropriate dues. Where applicable, a copy of the incorporation certificate, a copy of objects and by-laws of the organization and current membership list must also be submitted. The membership application must be recommended by the Membership Committee and approved, by a favorable vote of not less than two-thirds of the delegates present at the regular meeting of the Representative Council.

2.03        MEMBERSHIP WITHDRAWL AND TERMINATION

2.03.1  Any member, wishing to withdraw from membership may do so upon a notice in writing to the Executive Committee through the Secretary of COSO. No portion of the membership dues will be refundable.

2.03.2  Any member, upon a favorable vote of not less than two-thirds of the delegates present at a regular meeting of the Representative Council , may be expelled from membership for any cause which COSO may deem reasonable.

2.03.3   Any member, who is in arrears for membership dues and assessments for any year, shall automatically be suspended from membership at the expiration of sixty days from end of each year and shall thereafter be entitled to no membership privileges or powers in COSO until reinstated.
